Season details
The 2026-27 URC begins the weekend of 25-26 September 2026 and runs to the final on 19 June 2027. Sixteen teams from Ireland, Italy, Scotland, Wales and South Africa; 18 rounds before the play-offs. Leinster defend the title they won last season.
The SA fixture picture
- Early rounds: the SA sides open with manageable home/away splits before the November international window pauses the league.
- The derbies to circle: Bulls vs Lions at Loftus, Stormers vs Sharks at Cape Town Stadium, and the North-South derby that splits the country.
- The December run: the festive fixture pile-up is where SA depth — and the Bok-resting policies — decide standings.
The title picture
Leinster remain the measuring stick, but the Bulls have been SA's strongest recent performers and the Stormers' Cape Town Stadium factor travels badly for visitors. The Sharks' squad spending finally meets a window where it must deliver. Play-off home venues are earned from October onwards.
